Our Collaboration

We have completed the first phase of an innovative, forward-looking project in collaboration with the DLR Institute for Future Fuels at the German Aerospace Center (DLR).

Feasibility Study for the Construction of a
Pilot Plant, 2025

Project overview:

The production of green methanol – that is the aim of the SolMeth24 project. Methanol is a versatile chemical that can be produced from hydrogen and carbon dioxide. If this is done using clean, renewable energy, the process can help to make hard-to-decarbonise sectors such as shipping more environmentally friendly.

To reduce dependence on fluctuating green electricity, it is planned to use easily storable thermal energy from concentrated solar power plants. This thermal energy will be integrated into an industrial methanol plant to enable more continuous distillation of raw methanol, extend operating times, and allow the plant to be started up and shut down quickly.

Together with the Institute for Future Fuels at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), we conducted a techno-economic analysis as part of the SolMeth24 project and developed a concept for a pilot plant. The planned pilot plant will serve as a small-scale test platform to derive insights for industrial-scale processes.
